Description
Centrifuge
Balance of capacity 500 grams and sensitivity 0.01grams.
Thermostatically controlled oven with capacity up to 2500 C.
Beaker for collecting extracted material.
The test procedure for Bitumen Extraction Test includes the following steps:
- Take precisely 500 grams of the representative sample and deposit it into the extraction apparatus bowl (W1).
- Completely submerge the sample in benzene.
- Dry and weigh the filter paper, then position it over the sample-containing extraction apparatus bowl (B). Securely clamp the bowl cover.
- Position a beaker under the drainpipe to collect the extract.
- Allow sufficient time, not exceeding one hour, for the solvent to disintegrate the sample before initiating the centrifuge.
- Gradually increase the centrifuge speed to a maximum of 3600 rpm and maintain this speed until the solvent ceases to flow from the drainpipe.
- Run the centrifuge until both bitumen and benzene are fully drained.
- Stop the machine, remove the cover, add 200 ml of benzene to the material in the extraction bowl, and repeat the extraction process.
- Conduct this process not less than three times until the extraction is clear and not darker than a light straw color.
- Retrieve the material from the extraction machine bowl, including the filter paper, and dry it to a constant weight in an oven at 1050 C to 1100 C.
- Finally, cool to room temperature, and weigh the material (W2) and the filter paper (D) separately with an accuracy of 0.01 grams.
